Do Not Buy From Outpost.com -- Bait & Switch

Their website is still taking orders for the E6600 and saying it'll ship on 8/14/06. I had ordered several days ago but received email this morning saying otherwise:

"Thank you for your order! We apologize but the item(s) you ordered is currently out of stock and we are unable to provide a definite ship date at this time. However, we continually receive new merchandise in our warehouse and we hope to fulfill your order within the next thirty days or sooner if possible."

Called customer service and they know the website is wrong but claim "only corporate can change it". So basically they are taking people's orders fully knowing that they dont have them in stock and lying about the ship date.

They're doing like a lot of other people... feeding their web site directly from a distributor's back end. The distributor must have been claiming 8/14/06 and has now changed its mind...

bait & switch would be if they tried to get you to buy another item. Like advertising one car and when you get there they don't have it and try to sell you another.
They are just using deceptive adds and false dates so I agree, don't buy from them. ScrewEgg may bleed you for all your worth but their inventory is accurate. So is clubit.com which had E6600s for $359 plus free shipping, mine is in the mail.

When I called Outpost today they said they are only getting 45 in and that will be on the 18th so I canceled my preorder. It looks like Clubit is really going to be the only place worth buying from unless you feel lucky or like to get ripped off.

I second the motion for ClubIT. After receiving an e-mail from ShopBLT stating that my pre-order from July was delayed indefinitely, I placed an order with ClubIT. They had my E6700 on my doorstep within 3 days. They even included a free 10-pack of recordable DVD's as a thank you for my order. This was my first time ordering through them, and I have to say I was very pleased.

BTW, ClubIT is able to order their CPUs direct from Intel so there's no "middle man" wait.

what about buy.com ? $339 with free shipping, "usually ships within 1 to 2 weeks" - e6600.

I've done a fair amount of business with Buy.com in the past and never had a problem. However, there's been alot of negative feedback on them over the past year.

I guess the rule of thumb would be "buyer beware." If anyone decides to take a chance on them, you can oftentimes find some discount coupons floating around which might make this deal even warmer.

Yes I remember ordering something from them when it went OOS, took them like 5 weeks to ship, ended up getting it in 1.5 months time. But I think you could cancel if you choose tho.

It's a good price but they've had 1-2 weeks up for a day past 2 weeks and there's no sign that they will be getting chips any time soon.

that's because if you order an item and you dont get it, it takes more than three months to get your $$ back (stupid bastards @ buy.com)

Anteater2 - How is your E6700 clocking?

I was waiting on a power supply, so I haven't finished building the new rig yet. Just received all the remaining parts today, so you can guess what I'll be doing tonight 😉

I see you got your E6600 up to 3.6GHz. Very nice. What kind of cooling?
