So I was evaluating jv16 Power Tools a while back as it was the recommended Registry Cleaner on Kaspersky Forums. I installed the demo and was about to purchase it, but before I enter my paypal details, I stopped, thinking, let me first evaluate it.

I installed the demo and cleaned my registry. It destroyed many things in my computer. Many programs would not work properly, a weird settings changed, I had the Games Folder in my Start Menu set to expand as a menu; after the registry cleaning, it changed to not expand but rather, just became a short cut link. Many weird things I can't remember.

So I quickly uninstalled it and went back to an image I created earlier before installing jv16 Power Tools.

Now, everyday, I receive this email from them, even though I have replied to them to NOT send me anymore emails and have placed them on my junk list in Gmail, but I don't know how are they still sending me this crap everyday!

People beware not to ever deal with this cheap company!!!

PS: Anyone knows how can I report them to authorities for sending me spam? I know there was a site or email that you can report to but I forgot it.

I can't believe people at the Kaspersky Forums recommend jv16 Power Tools to clean up the registry after uninstalling Kaspersky Internet Security or Antivirus

I Have used both, but mostly JV Powertools which i like better.

I've used JV16 powertools for several years. Never had a problem with it conflicting with anything.

However, as with all registry cleaners, I never take at face value all the entries it says are obsolete or useless. Some progs put in placeholders inthe registry that don't pint to an actual file except when the prog is running. Deleting all those entries can muck up other software. Wordperfect epseicially seeems to suffer from wholesale reg cleaning.

But JV16 is a comprehensive, nicely laid out set of utilities. Really nice for scrubbing an unistalled program from the registry with the Finder tool.

jv16 Power Tools was good... maybe a decade ago. Clean by hand or just use CCleaner.

3. Now would be a good time to use a registry cleaner, there are many different vendors, but the one which i find most thorough and safe is JV Powertools or Powertools lite (Freeware) run it (use normalmode only, not aggressive), when finished scanning you rightclick and select "All", then you click "Fix" at the bottom, it will ask you if you wish to make a backup and you do, just to be safe. Regcleaners should IMHO only be used in these circumstances = when you are cleaning programs of your HD that you do not intend to use again, running regcleaners daily or weekly is a vaste of time IMHO.

Doesn't gmail provide a "block sender" option?

Berryracer,

Let me state front that I have no commercial interest in Maceware / JV16 Powertools

I have use PC's since the IBM AT. I have used JV16 Powertools for over 10 years and never had a problem - from Win98 throught to Win7 64-bit. Used with care - usually with default settings which back up changes - one can hardly go wrong. Heaven knows how you did. If one likes to experiment without first researching likely results, one can't blame others. Did you first read the extensive User Guide?

Macecraft is one of the most reputable software companies in the world. They even provide free support which is rare these days. If you has bothered to seek their assistance, you might have been pleasantly surprised. To try and trash their reputation, as you have done, is quite disgraceful.

I hope others reading this will disregard your reckless advice. We need skilled and committed specialist software developers like Macecraft / JV16. Or do we want MS to squeeze them out?

Macecraft has horrible customer service. I've haven't had a problem with the program itself but a couple of requests for invoice copies took them a few months.

Your assertion that I have a commercial interest in Macecraft is totally incorrect.

The link in your last posting makes no reference to Macecraft or Powertools. It does mention problems with free registry cleaners. I also noted that your posting on that forum also contributed nothing to the discussion.

You seem to have problems with basic stuff like on-line transactions and filtering spam e-mails. Best of luck with reinstalling and reconfiguring your entire system, which is what you'll probably finish up having to do after experimenting with free registry cleaners.

Posting your experience might save others from disaster. Now that would be a worthwhile contribution!

Agree! Besides, registry cleaners are related to snake oil.
