Just need a good pair of running shoes that won't hurt my pocket? Are NB good for the price?

Depends on the runner. I've got a very narrow foot that requires a lot of flexibility in a shoe and I like a lot of cusioning.

NB couldn't provide that type of setup for me.

I like my New Balance shoes, in fact I'm wearing them right now. I've had mine for about 7 months now, after the sole on my Adidas starting coming off. The fabric isn't starting to tear at the seams like Nikes or Adidas would have around this time. I've worn out the inside of the shoe near the top back where my heal rubs it when I put the shoes on or off. I'm pretty pleased with mine, I got mine for $40 I think at Goody's.

I tend to roll my ankles easily and NB makes a wider soles than Nike so i switched to NB and never rolled them again. So i made the switch and never looked back.

I'm thinking of picking up the new ones they are coming out with soon, think they are called NB Zip. I run alot but since I have flat feet I need alot of support in my shoes, or else my knees/ankles/hips/back will seriously make me want to cut my feet off.

New Balance for running? I say no. I have a pair of New Balances that I wear casually with jeans and shorts. I couldnt imagine running in them. I like Nike 360's for running.

I have wide feet and NB seems to be the only place that makes shoes comfortable for me. Interestingly, I sort of know the owner (his son went to high school w/ me, same age, he would wear new sneakers every week). He's got a really nice house in my hometown.

Go to a running store and let them recommend you a pair. I've always had shin splits using Adidas and even NB running shoes off the shelf at a regular sporting goods store. Went to a store specializing in running - they measured my feet, took a look at how I ran, and fit me with a pair of Brooks running shoes. I've never had shin splints since, and I actually enjoy it now. Paid more than I did for the Adidas/NB shoes (about $100-110) but they were well worth it.

Same for me. I haven't been able to wear Nike shoes for years because they seem way too narrow

Every yuppie and spoiled rich teenager wears the grey ones (992s). I got a pair for the hell of it, over $100, and they fell apart quickly. Terrible value.

The only reason to buy New Balance is if you have wide feet. They seem to fit better than other brands.

For running, I wear Asics. For casual wear, I wear sketchers. Yes. sketchers (flame suit). I've worn everything else (adidias, nike, NB, tons of soccer shoes), and they are the most comfortable and nigh indestructible. I usually toss them out of boredom before they actually wear out. I had a pair of the blue ones for five years, despite wearing them constantly. The stitchings finally started to fray in year 4.

 I own some because they're comfortable and you can wear them casually with just about everything.

NB makes some great shoes, and they make many of them in America. I like Asics for regular running and NBs for trail running because they have firmer outsoles so you don't feel the rocks as much through them. Since I generally go on trails, I have a bunch of NBs.
I haven't had as much luck with Adidas and Nikes, which seem more like style over substance to me, and I really don't feel like paying more than $50 for shoes that are made in China for pennies.

The problem with Nike and Adidas is that they have two different product lines of shoes. They have the "mass consumer" line that they sell to your typical mall store (Finish line, Footlocker, ect) and then they have a true technical line that they sell to dedicated running/higher end sporting goods stores.

A lot of first time/casual runners just walk into the mall and go to the "running shoe" section and choose from the crappy form over function lineup.

I've had my pair for over 6 years. Hundreds if not thousands of miles running in them and they are still awesome. I can run barefoot with them and be perfectly fine, they are good.

Go to a running store to get a pair of shoes fitted for the type of feet you have. I got some NB shoes a year ago at Foot Locker that are no where near as good as the Asics I got fitted for.

I've been using the same pair for 2 years now, almost no noticeable wear (I run every other day for the most part).
