Do Multiple Displays demand dual PCIe X16?

I planned on going with multiple display with this new build. Not right away...but in a year or so I would like to invest in two more LCDs. A 22 inch for the centre and two 20's on each side.

Does this mean that to better future proof my new rig and maintain a high rez for FPS gaming, (I play competively) that I have to rely on one of the SLI or Xfire mobos?

How do I do this?

Thanks all...

You play competitively? But don't know how video systems work? If you are going to run 3 monitors (you say a 22 in the middle and 2x20's on the sides, you will need a 2nd video card. You might as well go SLI or Xfire now so you can have this set up in the future. You're only other option is to get a single PCI-E slot board and use a PCI graphics card to run your outer monitors.

You could use a PCI card for the extra monitors, or get something like the Matrox DualHead2Go, but personally I would get an SLI motherboard and run 2 cards in the PCIe x16 slots (in fact, that is what I am doing, a 7800GT and a 7200GS).

Unless you mean you are planning to game across the three screens, in which case you might find that you can't.
