Do motherboard "features" affect performance scores?

Hey everyone!

I was reading the review for the Aopen AX4PE Max and thought it might be a good buy. However, the only Aopen i845PE board I've been able to find locally is the AX4PER. I checked out Aopen's website and primarily it seems like the main difference is that ALL the features are non-existent on the PER version.

What I was wondering though, is that will the PER version perform as well as the PE Max? More specifically, would the PER board yield the same results (performance wise) as the PE Max did on the AT review?

Thanks for any and all help!

Hello again all!

I think I need to generalize my query a little...

Since I first posted this, upon further research I've found a few more boards from the i845PE shootout that have numerous counterparts. For example, the Gigabyte 8PE667 Ultra has the Ultra 2, the Pro, and the base 8PE667 version. While it's clear that the main difference seems to be features such as one version adding onboard LAN, another adding RAID, and then finally the Ultra 2 adding the S-ATA option, do all the boards PERFORM the same? That is, would the SYSMark 2002, SPEC Viewperf 7.0 and other performance charts remain the same for all version of the board(s)?

Thanks again!

If you're looking for a full featured, fast, stable, and well overclocking board, the ASUS P4PE or ABIT IT7 Max2 (845PE chipset) are both excellent choices. However, it really depends on how much you're willing to spend and exactly what features you need.
