I think you know nothing about the term Christian. Christian can mean any religion where they follow Christ, like Roman Catholic. Some Christians somehow will argue that people who believe or follow Christ are not Christians, but I consider that silly.
What is a Deist??
Some discriptions of Deism say the Deist does not believe in Holy Books. So if you read the Bible you are not a Deist.
Is that someone who believes in God, but has no opinion about Christ?
Does that mean Jews are Deists?
Give us a definition. If you cant, dont use the term.
Personally, I would lump anyone who believes in God into a general category of Christian.
1. George Washington - Deist
2. John Adams - Unitarian
3. Thomas Jefferson - Deist
4. James Madison - (questionable: raised Episcopalian, but has been referenced as Deiest, not completely sure)
5. James Monroe - Deist
6. John Quincy Adams - Unitarian
Again, you are assuming "God" is the Christian God. Allah = God, but Muslims aren't Christians.
Christians are followers of Christ and those who believe in his divinity. Considering most deists do not believe in his divinity , but do believe in his teachings, they wouldn't be considered Christians.
Personally, I consider myself a believer in God, but I don't subscribe to the fact that God is what Christians have made him out to be. They have twisted his intent and while I don't believe in most of the parables of the Bible, I do believe in their intent. However, people extrapolate way too much from it and also do not have a good bit of critical thinking towards it.
If God were truly benevolent, then we wouldn't be so ego-centric or exclusive of other religions. We would simply say that they are also God's creation and he put them here for a reason. Furthermore, we wouldn't attempt to bend them to our will, since they will meet God and he will judge them at that point. This goes for any "undesirable" group that we deem to be bending God's rules, especially when they do not cause direct harm to another creation of God (I wouldn't treat a murder the same way as a gay person).
It's funny that humans have existed and have believed and have lived and died under many more religions and beliefs than the Christian God for much longer than Christianity has existed, yet we somehow think that out of all of the billions that came before and after Christianity, only Christians themselves are chosen.
Why would a benevolent and loving God condemn billions of people to hell before Christianity was created or after?
The simple answer is, a benevolent and loving God wouldn't, but greedy and selfish humans, in a twisted attempt to justify their own lust for belonging and control would.
