Do monitors eventually loose color and brightness?

Maybe it's just my imagination but my monitor seems to be loosing color and brightness. It's a 17" Dell Trinitron that I bought from a PC Repair shop 3 years ago, the monitor is probably 5 years old.

Do monitors do that? Lose color and brightness?

Yes, I have to crank the brightness on one of my CRTs to at least +71, gamma to 1.24, and contrast at 127 for my background to be anything but black :/
 
Definitely I have dual sony monitors, one of em is an old 15 incher and it is nowhere near as clear or as bright as my much newer 19". The 15" is just really old and has gotten kinda crappy.
