Do Maxtor DiamondMax Plus's have the same problem as the IBM GXP's?

I have 2 IBM 75GXPs and each has failed on my at least twice because of the large cache shutdown problem in Windows. First time it happened to me, I sent it back to get a replacement but now I just low level format it. I'm tired of this game though...never knowing when it'll happen again. I'm no longer on Win98SE but I think it's still gonna happen on WinXP cuz it shuts down quick!

My drives failed even with the large cache update on 98SE...set the delay to 4 seconds instead of the default 2. And even the 60GXPs have the problem so I'm definitely not an IBM fan anymore.

I was looking at replacing these drives with the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus drives but saw that they have 2 megs of cache like the IBMs but I haven't read much about them having as many failures as the GXPs. Anyone have experience with the DM+'s? Any other recommended hard drives?

I have a few as well as having put about 20 of them in systems for friends with no problems at all.

Will we ever figure out what causing all these 75 gxp and 60 gxp series IBM HDS to fail ? I want to know the real problem!!!!
Will we ever know?

IBM won't even admit there is a problem let alone what the problem is.

Found a link to this article at storagereview.com's forums: IBM Failures!

This makes sense I guess if it's true.
