Do logitech mice work the same/in 800dpi without its software installed?

I have a MX500 and dont like how when I switch users in XP, then go back to my account that the middle button no longer does anything. I have mine set in the Logitech software to "middle button".. I like the way it scrolls better than logitechs way.

I also lose those other buttons functions like switching applications ect.

If I uninstall the Logitech software do I lose the precision that hte MX500 has?
I think then, it would work properly with the XP OS, but might lose my 800dpi.
 
goodie. i thought it was 800dpi but didnt work in 800 w/o the software
i read somewhere once it was only 400 w/o.

im having this problem in WoW with my mouse pointer not responding.. and figured it was either a video card driver issue, or possibly the logitech drivers
