Question do led backlit TVs still have inverters?

my mom's older tv backlight goes out randomly. the next day it will either turn on normally or shut down immediately. the audio works fine.

i checked the backlight by shining a light and the pixel elements are still working. it is an edge lit backlight on a 2009ish tv.

i googled and some of the results/videos show an inverter on the psu board. shouldnt an led backlight be dc?

i've ordered a new tv for her, but i wondering if it worth it to try and fix the old ones backlight.

Probably fluorescent lighting instead of LED. Might try replacing the inverter board. Issues with that board can knock out the backlight while everything else continues to work properly. Worth trying for $10-20 if you have a use for the TV.

it has a bunch of hot spots in the backlight along the lower edge so it probably isnt fluorescent. at best it would be an unused spare. easier to put it up on craigslist as a $20 as is fixer upper.
