Hey folks...

For those LCD owners out there that have 17inch or 19inch LCDs that ghost a little bit in FPS games...do you get similar ghosting in racing games?..and if so does it detract to the point where they aren't fun to play?

I'm about to buy a Samsung 191N...a nice 19inch LCD that I know ghosts a little in the FPS games. I just want to know if it's going to suck royally for games like F1 2002, Need for Speed games, or GTA Vice City.

Thanks in advance for any experiences or opinions.

I run "NFS Porsche Unleashed" on my Envision 5100E LCD all the time, and I've never experienced any ghosting. Most of my other gaming is flight sims, and never had any issues there either!

the response time may be too slow for fast motion. this is why games doing do well on most LCDs. samsung doesnt have any 16ms (means the pixels can change color 62 times a second) yet.

It depends on the responce time of the TFT really. I have a Hitachi CMl174SXW and it doesnt ghost in anything. Including very fast racing games, like Episode1 Racer.

BoomAM - What's the response time of your LCD? I presume it's a 17inch?

iwearnosox - I can't access your link. I've looked alot into that LCD actually, but I'm definitely gunning for a 19inch LCD unless the experience is totally awful for gaming hence the question of ghosting in racing games.

Stephpar.
My Hitachi CML174SXW, is a 17" TFT, 16ms responce time, 400:1 contrast ratio. Connected via the DVI connector.
Keep in mind that a 17" TFT, is bigger than a 17" CRT.
On a CRT, the size also includes the plastic surround of the screen, where as on a TFT, the size is the actual screen, and doesnt include the plastic surround.

I have never seen ghosting in any racing games on any of the lcds I've tested at work. But then again all the lcds here have response times of 20-25ms.

Depends on how good your LCD is, my Viewsonic VP171B rocks at everything! It's the best of both worlds, all the gaming precision of a CRT (no ghosting, etc.) but with the drastically reduced eyestrain of an LCD and a slim-lookin profile!

i was wondering what 19" LCD would offer no ghosting as well...thinking about that option for down the road.

I don't think there is a 19inch LCD below 25ms response time yet. That said, the ones at or near that spec are suppose to be OK for games. I just want to know how bad ghosting is in racing games since everyone always talks about it with reference to FPS games.

If you are looking for a 16ms resp time, LCDs based on the AU Optronics panels are the top models out. If you want DVI, three to look at that use this panel are:

NEC/Mitsu 1760NX
Hitachi CML174
Viewsonic VP171B

There are no 19" 16ms that I know of. There are some 25ms models that are supposed to be very good, but I dont know them well enough to recommend one.

One favorite 19in around the office is the Dell UltraSharp 1901FP the Cornea Systems CT1904 is also another office favorite in the 19in catagory for its price performance ratio. If you need more options just let me know and I can pool some people around here to find out what they like....

I think I've seen a few ones that were cheap and had times like 40 or 35ms they were horrid!

Yeah that DELL sreen is based on the Samsung 191T. It's the same as the one that i'm looking at but with a DVI plug too. I've read in one review that the 191N and 191T perform identically, and that the 191N even seems a bit brighter side by side. How's racing games, or ghosting on that screen NeonFlak?

my 19" planar has a response time of 25ms. colin mcrae rally 3 looks awesome at 1024x768 32bit with 6xFSAA and 16x AF with all details on, and i never notice any ghosting.
