Do laugh tracks work?

I can't stand the laugh tracks that plague sitcoms...

Do they really work in making people laugh?

The more I hear them the more I am annoyed 😕

-Just food for thought

There was a Lexx episode on just the other day called "Lafftrak". Anyone else catch it? It's oddly relevent towards the question posed in this thread.

they are the epitome of lame, they tell you when to laugh, oh yay. lots of shows use them, but they have a "live audience" either way it is stupid. even though they have a live audience they often dub in laughter because after the 3rd take or whatever it isn't funny anymore.

They often are lame, but sometimes necessary. Gilligans Island's movie didn't have a laugh track and it really sucked.

Lets be honest. I dont think thats why it sucked. 😀

Laughter is contagious, so studio's used to rely on them. I think modern comedy is beyond the laugh track, either you get the joke or you don't.

They still have the lighted "applause" signs for the studio audience on live TV though.....

Watch a Munster's movie and then watch an episode from the tv show. Both have the same kind of humor but the tv show used a laugh track.
