I think they do. Walter Williams said that blacks, most of whom have less education than whites, had higher employment rate than whites did before minimum wage was applicable to all jobs and that there is no stopping discrimination.

Labor unions don't work because the management always wins out (the CEO has the final say as long as the shareholders think he is doing a good job and management will just ask for more if they have to pay the laborers more), the members of unions have to pay money to get their benefits, and then their employment plus the cost of their benefits keeps new employees out (especially immigrants).

Like having tariffs on everything, labor unionization of everything would result in prices being the same for everyone at best and a disaster at worst.

Labor legislation is a revolt against the natural order of things IMO.

I'd rather be put in my natural place shining shoes for a half a dollar an hour than be trying to bust my ass trying to get a job that would pay me more than my labor is worth.

FTFY

Voluntary exchange benefits everyone involved. Coercion only benefits the politically connected.

(And you won't find any liberals or conservatives who care about this because none of them understand basic economics.)

France and South Africa are good examples of how these laws actually increase unemployment by making employment of a employee a costly affair for the employer.

Nope...the lack of skills keep the unskilled unemployed.

That is not always true.

If you make firing a difficult process that is too costly and time intensive for the employer than you actually in the end dissuade employers from going out and hiring without first having a damn good need to do so period. So even when employers do have a good reason to take on new workers they then take extra additional steps to hire only "quality and dependable" workers.

No and you obviously don't understand the basis of Walter Williams's argument.

Walter Williams's argument stems from the fact that at one point in America's history African Americans had more opportunities of employment before certain labor laws came about but which were in fact designed to keep primarily white union workers employed over black workers who were usually not unionized in the US.

Even flipping burgers requires a skillset that has to be learned.

Like watching pink meat turn brown on both sides and setting timers for the fryer? The private sector needs to step up in a big way.

The answer is, no. However, Global Labor Arbitrage helps keep the unskilled unemployed since: (1) We've sent millions of those types of jobs overseas, and (2) we imported tens of millions impoverished people into the country to displace them from jobs.

Ha, ha, ha... now that's funny. Or sad. I'm not sure which.

There once was a time in America when jobs that involved flipping burgers, digging ditches, moving furniture, and pulling weeds were considered "unskilled labor". Anyone with a pulse could walk in off the street and get one of those jobs in a pinch. Nowadays, since the population has been thoroughly dumbed down in the government indoctrination system, and critical thinking is at an all-time low, those jobs are now considered to require "skill sets".

Good grief.

Minimum wage laws have the effect of cutting off the bottom rungs of a ladder. If you are tall enough you dont need the bottom rung, but if you are short on skills you will the bottom rung.

Minimum wage laws make all jobs worth less than minimum wage illegal.
