Do Job Fairs help?

I was told by my friend that job fairs are useless.

The companies that hold these events, pretty much arrange it to make it appear that they are doing well and are hiring. Sure they may come across a oustantding potential candiate but the chances of them hiring someone from all the resumes submited at a job fair is less than 1%.

Is this true?

your friend is stupid

i have gotten (edit) most my internships in college from job fairs!

go go go!!!

btw i had 6 internships when in college.

Yes, in my humble opinion. Although I did get a Co-op interview because of that, which led to me being hired. But I consider that just a fluke. Also this was in the haydays of the economy.

Career fairs are for companies to showcase themselves. Some of them don't even have job openings, they just come so that people are familiar with the company name. Recently, there has been this annoying trend. They won't even take your resume, they just give you a card with the company website where you can submit your resume. Atleast let the guy have the satisfaction of handing his resume out.

They do help. I got my current job through a career fair. Though it is true that sometimes will go to career fairs just to showcase themselves even if they have no positions open.

I just went to my universities "Career Day" and half the companies that were listed as interesting in IT weren't even interested in IT people. The few companies that did need IT people all said it was needed at the national level and not at the local level and they couldnt help me and I need to contact the headquarters.

non college job fairs suck. The people in the booth often aren't the people doing the hiring and usually just becomes a place to mass place your resume in a lot of companies at once, if they even accept them.

For all the retardes who tell you that Job Fairs don't help, don't listen to them. While you won't get jobs a majority of the time, there still is that 1 percent chance you might get hired. If you do, then most likey it will be a PHAT job. So don't be negative.... try to land an interview at the job fair. That way, at least you tried and know for sure.
