Ok, I'm watching the Sopranos and I noticed that there's a lot of kissing between men. It just seems an awful lot to me. I'm just wondering if real Italian men do this or just in the mob.

It's funny, througout the whole world, the kissing between men isn't attached with homosexual connotations, but when you step into the states...watch out!

It's simply a showing of respect and affection.

Yeah, well, see it's the "affection" part that doesn't sit well for most of us guys.

It's a European thing. My family it's custom to men and women to kiss each other on the cheek once, men shake hands. When the folks from the old country come over it's a kiss on each cheek for men to women. The Sopranos is full of it. I don't know any Americanized Italians where the men kiss each other.

He's correct. I am American-Italian. I was born here to immigrant parents. As a child, I always kissed my Uncles hello. On the cheek, you pervs, on the CHEEK.

As I got older (early teens) I stopped b/c of the homosexual connotations that goes along w/it here in the US. In Europe(and in European cultures here in the US) it's a common sight to see two men kiss each other on the cheek. That same guy you just kissed on the cheek, though, will punch you in the mouth if you "accidentally" give him a big wet one and slip him some tongue, though!!

its common in the middle eastern culture as well. i'm persian and as a sign of respect we kiss on the cheek on both sides, it doesn't matter male or female.
