Do ionizers really work?

I think most of the help comes from the removal of dust from your living area rather than the actually ionized air.

Good for removing smells, ok for cleaning the air. If you really want cleaner air, get a HEPA filter, but if you're just looking to get rid of smells, they work well and are much quieter.

hepa is the way
IF You can take the noise. The Ionic Breeze doesn't do quite as well, but if motor noises bother you, it will be better than a HEPA filter.

I would avoid them.

Ionized oxygen isn't exactly healthy.

My neighbor was selling those things. he let us demo one for a week besides from my house smelling like a copier room, all of us came down with bad sore throats. we gave it back and said no thanks.
