Do I wait on degree?

First of all I am 11 credits away from my CS degree (4 classes) after this fall session.

So i posted on here about 6 months ago about an internship/part time job with a new computer company here in vermont. Well I have been working there since, part time and its a really good company with excellent people. Several people said that it might not be a good choice with a future CS degree as right now it is mainly just building systems. The company is expanding like crazy, but I am not sure if they are going to offer someone with a fresh degree a decent amount of money.

Anyway so fast forward to this week and this new job comes up but in IT. The company is burton snowboards which both my sister and her husband work for. Burton is an awesome company to work for with great benifits and people. The guy in IT said they are hiring within the next week or so for a full time person and that they offer to pay for school until I get my degree. If I were to get this job I would have to push my degree back until the fall but still take a night CS course. I am sure that the pay would be very similar and the job is much closer, although other company WILL need a larger building soon.

Has anyone ever been in a similar situation? Thanks

I have no idea, but as an intern/whatever for the first job I am making 10. I am sure they will be offering salary 30K from what I heard from other people. The other compnay I have no idea, but I am thinking 40K? I honestly am clueless to what the IT field pays.

For only 30k a year?

Get your degree now and search for another job. Average salary for entry level programmers in Vermont is about 45-50k a year according to salary.com

I guess if your major is CS you should find a job that deals more with programming or designing software rather than building pc's.

Just my 2 cents

Stay in school and get the degree. If this company likes you they will offer you a job when you finish.

Have you talked to anyone, your boss, HR, etc, in the company about your situation?

Go with the job.

If you are still going to be taking a night class, then you are still working on your degree. The most important step here is that you actually finish your degree. You must continue to take the night classes, or you will become one of those people who "Went to college, but didn't graduate."

Lets say they start you out at ~30k... after you get your degree, they should bump you up with a small promotion. This is their way of getting you cheaply at first, and if they like you, they will keep you, and pay you more.

Burton != technology company.

I know working for a snowboard company is cool and all. But when it comes down to looking good on a resume, a tech-related company say IBM will look better than a snowboard maker. Especially for a CS grad.

Ok late bump,

I have no idea about the pay, I was just guessing that, could be more. I have two more CS classes left, along with two electives that could be taken online. I might even take both CS classes in the spring if they would allow that. Then I could take two classes either night or online during the summer to finish it out. If this job is a go though, I would be thrown into a 40 or so hour work week starting VERY soon.
