Do i use the CD cable and the CD-SPDIF cable or just the CD-SPDIF???

Senior member
i have a Pioneer DVD 105s and the SB Live! MP3...
i want to use the DVD to listen to CDs and watch
the occasional movie from the DVD ROM...i will
also use the SB programs to create some MP3s...

this i believe i understand:

to listen to CDs i connect the DVDROM to soundcard with the typical CD cable,
to watch DVDs i connect the DVDROM to soundcard with the CD-SPDIF cable.

the documentation is not entirely clear on this point:

Should I connect both of them? or should i just connect the
CD-SPDIF cable? shall i assume that the SPDIF cable will take
care of both dvd playback and music CD playback?

Down the road i will move the CDR from my other box to this one.
When I do the connections to the soundcard will look like this, right?:

CDRW--->CD Cable--->Soundcard
DVD---->CD-SPDIF--->SOundcard

Any help appreciated.

The audio from a DVD passes over the IDE ribbon cable. No external audio cable is required for DVD playback. For CD playback, you use either the analog cable or the digital (SPDIF) cable, not both. The digital is better.
