Do I take the sticker off of the CPU?

Hi,

I just got a new athlon 1800 xp and I have a question... it has a little sticker on it with some numbers, I don't know if it's a serial number or other form of idenitification, but I'm wondering if I need to remove it. Will removing void the warranty or something? Do I need to take it off for proper cooling?

thanks!

I didn't know they put stickers on the cpu's.If you bought the retail cpu there should be some instructions in the box.As long as the sticker is not on the core I guess its ok but if its on the core I would definitly peel it off.

I usually peel them off and then save them for warranty. Sometimes they put these where I consider them to hamper cooling.

Well, I peeled it off and destroyed the sticker in the process. Oh well, at least I didn't destroy the chip! (I hope) 😀

thats probably a OEM cpu? the sticker was placed by the store that you bought it from for letting them know thats their CPU, maybe will have a date too. If you remove that, they could say that ur warrantee from them is void.

Yeah I noticed that recentkly too, was on the underside of the chip, I peeled it off and tossed it away. The warranty on OEM cpu's is only 90 days anyway right?

Yeah oem warranties are a joke. I have an oem 1700+ and I just left the sticker on it since it didn't interfere at all with cooling the chip.
