Do I return my UHauls with gas in them?

Or, well, diesel. They were damn near on E when I got them, and they're both buried south of that now. Filling up two freightliner trucks with diesel is a really, really nasty thought.

Read your contract. You need to bring them back with at least the same amount if not more fuel in them then when you picked them up. They should have had you mark a section in the contract with how much fuel was initially in the trucks.

"We will not accept returns without full fuel tanks" would be the likely answer. And that's just straight BS.

I would have thought that would be written out in the rental agreement. Something like that should be spelled out.

Doesn't sound familiar, the contracts are in the trucks. I guess I'll check it out on my way back.

Everytime I have used UHaul they asked me to look over the trucks, mark any damage on a picture within the contract, mark the fuel level, and record the mileage prior to taking the truck.

Is that what you signed? If so, how is that BS? Also, if that is the answer, why would the opinion of ATOT trump the policy of Uhaul on their trucks?

I was told to look them over, but not to mark anything. Of course, the mileages were 37 and 40 respectively, and they were both fresh out of the company paint booths... So there wasn't exactly much to note.

The last time I rented one, they noted that it had a full tank, but there were a few gallons missing. I'd say calculate your mileage, and fill it appropriately. If they give you any guff tell them it has the same amount as when you borrowed it.

This has always been the case when I have rented trucks, too. Regardless of one-way or local rentals, you should return them with the same amount of fuel as you received it. In fact, they make a point of telling you the outrageous fuel price per gallon PLUS the $15 (or whatever) surcharge if you do not.
