I have 2x1GB corsair value select PC3200 DDR400. one has gone bad, the other is still good (verified by running each by itself)

in the RMA form, corsair recommends sending back both sticks of RAM to ensure a match. do I really need to do it? I prefer not to since I'd have to buy new RAM else I would be w/o a working system.

I'm running my X2 3800+ 2.0ghz @2.4ghz and rams @ 166mhz, so esdrentially, I'm running the RAMs at stock.

Yes, you should return both sticks. Only then you'll get an assurance that you are getting the matching pair.

In the meantime, get a cheapest possible 512MB PNY or other generic RAM at Staples or Best Buy to be able to use your computer.

Perhaps you'll be able to return it to the store for the refund after you get the RAM from Corsair...? ;)
