Do I really need to buy driver cleaner?

I'm considering upgrading my x1950pro 256mb I basically just bought to an 8800gts 320mb so I can play stalker at full detail. I was trying to wait until ATI came out with their new chips but they are taking forever and $250 for a 8800gts is pretty hard to pass up.

Do I need to get driver cleaner or will I be ok just uninstalling the drivers via add/remove programs?

why would you need to buy it?...just download it, use it and uninstall it when you are finished....it works for the rest of us.

I can't believe I didn't try googling "driver cleaner download", found plenty of reputable sites with it.

Is there a preferred version? I see 1.5 and 3.3

Driver Cleaner Pro 1.5 was the last free version to be released.

Don't know were 3.3 came from...??

Should is the key word there...I don't know if it's just lazy programming or what, but many uninstallers leave folders in the Program Files directory, as well as registry entries. I think Driver Cleaner takes care of all that stuff for those who don't want to (or can't) remove it manually.

AFAIK Driver Cleaner PRO 1.5 was the last free version ever released.

You can dl it for free, but you have to pay to activate it (I think).

be warned, ive been burned by driver cleaner pro. it worked fine for me many many many times, but one time...... it burned me.
