Do I really need case fans?

I mean I'm not going to overclock my cpu, yet. My case has a fan in the PS. The temp for my cpu is (give or take a few degrees) 35C and the temp in my case is 31C. Are these acceptable temps with my case open and no case fans? Can I close my case without having to worry about the temp? Or am I just paranoid? Thanks in advance.

Those actually are not bad temps at all. I would venture to guess that as soon as you put the case back on both of those temps are going to skyrocket (40 Celcius plus) depending on what processor you have. I would not suggest running your computer with the sides on and no fans although many OEMS do just that. I guess if temp stays below about 45 you would probably be doing ok.

I put my side panels back on just to see how it would react. So far the temp rose to 38C for the cpu and 36C for the case. Not that much higher. I'll be buying case fans if I need them though.

Mike - I'm running a K7T Pro-2a and a Duron 600Mhz with the stock heatsink and fan.

I just bought some case fans for my case mod project.. They aren't sunons.. but I had the oppurtunity to have a guy turn a Sunon on for me.. I couldn't tell the difference just by looking.. The no name fans I got spin fast (don't know how fast, but they boy do they blow).. I payed 5 CND for em.. I threw one in my case the other night.. it ain't even all that loud.. although, I don't mind some noise.. I actually like it.. when I get my 120mm case fans in.. I'll be rumblin.. whoopie

Mztykal,

You can probably go without case fans for the time being,b ut remember that your MB tends to under-read CPU temps. It is highly recommended to add at least 1 80mm exhaust and 1 80mm intake fans.
