Really. It seems I never come across anyone without a cellphone anymore. Even my GRANDPARENTS have one(but just one).

I don't really have any friends that live in town, and if work wants to call, they can always leave a message on the landline.

Am I missing something here? Why do so many people have cell phones?

No. It's nice to have though, even for non-phone oriented people like me. If you live with others, it could become your private message machine.

I'd probably have a prepaid, even if I only used it in emergencies... they seem to be phasing-out those call boxes on the side of the road, you could be pretty SOL if your car ever broke down in the middle of nowhere or something, whereas with a cell, you can have road service on the way there in minutes.

I haven't had a landline that I used in my house since, like.... 98, when I got my first cellphone. I don't really see what I'm missing by sticking with my cellphone. my friends only need to know one number, and they can reach me wherever (gogo power button when I don't want to be reached)

You might not, but I do. I never leave the house without it. Afraid I might miss something important or something bad might happen and I'll need it.

If you don't make a lot of calls and don't need a landline for dsl, a pre-paid cell phone can be a very economical choice.

I have Page Plus Cellular (uses Verizon network), and my phone bill ends up being 5 - 10 dollars a month (don't get nickeled and dimed with layers upon layers of taxes and surcharges). :)

Well, you don't need one, but it can be helpful. Off hand, I can think of a few times where you might have to talk to someone, but don't have a landline. For instance, getting a friend to pick you up at the airport if your flight is delayed, or if you're trying to meet up with someone, and you can't find them or are late. Also, maybe you just need quick advice or a confirmation for a purchase on the spot. But in reality, I guess a phone booth would suffice if you can still find them.

it seems like 9/10 people that call the landlines are telemarketers.

i have plenty of minuted and about 6k in just roll over. unlimited txting (which is really all i use)

now the dilemma is,

A. My alarm system needs a landlines hooked up

B . Cable is $60 a month for a 4mb/1mb(since im not a comcast subscriber for tv) and bellsouth dsl is $50~ month for 6mb/1mb

i honestly cannot tell you the last time i used my landline. or any landline for that matter.

No, I haven't had one in more than 12 years now. It doesn't sound as if you need one either.

There will undoubtedly arise a time when you wish you had one, but can whatever utility you might someday derive from it really compare to the smug sense of satisfaction you get from being the guy who "doesn't need one ah dem damned wireless noisemakers"? I didn't think so.

No, you don't a cell phone, suv, children, credit card, and whatever else people come up with daily. Live in a grass hut, eat what you can grow, and leave us alone.
