I dont see any hammering or pinging in ZoneAlarms activitys anymore. Some one said that the router has a built in firewall or sorts? can some one confirm this. I have this one here

thanks

BTW i can't share files o WinMX after i setup the router :( im not sure how to configure the router.

lotest, while I'm nowhere near a networking guru or the like; that link you provided also had this link http://grc.com/su-firewalls.htm about halfway down the page. It's a good read IMO. As for getting rid of ZoneAlarm, most of the posts and articles that I have read recomend using both a s/w and h/w firewall if you can, since firewall s/w & h/w will never be bulletproof. Hope this helps.

I use both, the Linksys keeps thing out, ( BTW, NAT is not a true firewall but works well enough) and ZA let?s me know what programs are trying to access the internet, something the Linksys can?t do.

Simple answer: Yes. (At least IMO). Slapstick is right; you may end up with a trojan or some such thing that will not be helped by the router. Be safe(r); use both.

It is strongly recommended that you run a software firewall along with you router. The router will prevent illegal access by hiding all ports however the router will not prevent outgoing traffic (last page visited, keystrokes ect) and thats where the software firewall come in. It will block outgoing traffic at your discretion, as some software you run on your computer loves to broadcast information. I have used Zone Alarm, Black Ice, and I am now using Tiny Firewall. Use the professional edition of Zone Alarm, I don't recommend Black Ice (Does not block outgoing traffic, just intrusions with alerts!) and Tiny is okay.

Yes, do have both. I'm currently running the linksys and have zonealarm pro installed. Note, that linksys and zonealarm got togehter to better the router. You should read the details on the linksys website.

i lob you guys :)

your right about using zone alarm with the routerl. Zone alarm tells me what programs want to access the internet and i can choose what will and what will not.

thanks for the links also.
