Yes, you need to have the 4 in 1's loaded. Even though your video card is PCI, the Via drivers allow the Southbridge to communicate with your PCI bus as well helping w/IRQ mastering. Important stuff; expect instability and crashes if you don't install them.

Possible but not probable. Overclocking ability has many factors, but to my knowledge the VIA drivers (or lack of) have nothing to do with it. Overclocking is related to how high a multiplier your CPU can handle, how high (FSB) your memory can go and the rest of your systems' ability to handle the increased PCI/AGP bus speeds.

The reason your system hasn't crashed and burned is probably b/c you're not using an AGP card. I've seen Socket A mobos that will hang in Windows within a few seconds w/o the VIA AGP busmastering driver installed.

BTW, your OC is pretty decent. I have a 1GHz TBird (B) that can only handle a 10.5 multiplier, else Windows locks at the desktop. Be happy.

Wait a minute,

I'm using an Epox 8K7A as well.

I'm almost certain that you don't need the 4-in-1, at least not all of the items in the 4-in-1.

Specifically, the 8K7A has an AMD Northbridge and a VIA Southbridge. The 4-in-1 includes drivers for complete VIA chipsets (ie chipsets where both the NB and SB are made by VIA).

If I'm not mistaken, users of the 8K7A should only install the VIA Busmaster Drivers component of the 4-in-1 since they control the IDE functions of the Southbridge.

They should not install the VIA AGP Driver or IRQ routing Driver since they do not apply to the AMD made NorthBridge. Instead users should install AMD's AGP MiniPort Driver.

Epox's support website has more info on this. I believe that it is reccommended that you install VIA's USB Filter Driver as well (though this is not included in the 4-in-1 apprently).

I do not have an 8k7a but I have a AMD761/Via686B combo.

After a clean windows install I install the Via 4in1s, when the list comes up uncheck the AGP miniport because you don't have a Via northbridge. After that install the AMD AGP Miniport driver. Then go on to install DirectX 8, Video, Sound, and Other device drivers.

I never installed the "Via 4-in-1's" but I installed the 4 drivers from the epox driver disk. This should be the same stuff, right?

That is the same stuff, just not the newest available versions of it.
