Do I need UPS with 700 watts or above for PC with 700 watt Power Supply?

This might be a stupid question, but I don't know. The system my sister ordered may come with a 700 watt power supply. Apparently some ship with 450 and some ship with 700 and there is no way to tell until it gets here.

Looking at the specs, there is no way the internals on her sytem will draw 700, let alone 400. One hard drive, one DVD drive, one 2GB video card, one firewire 800 card. She will sometimes hook up an external USB drive.

The problem is that a UPS with 700 watts is crazy expensive for her. She doesn't have the money. Man they cost big bukks.

A ups comes with "KVA" rating, not "Watt". To get number of "watt" a UPS output. Multiply its KVA rating with power factor. E.g a ups 600 kva a ups with power factor 0.6 will give 600*0.6=360w. So, keep this in mind in case you are buying a ups.
