Do I need to use those orange rubber washers when installing the mobo?

Those things are a pain in the arse to get all in there at the same time and have them all working. I know they are static electricity or whatever but it might take me forever to get all of them in there at the same time and working.....

Thanks for reading.

Picture please! If you are refering to plastic standoffs then yes you do need to install ALL of them to prenvent the board from bending and flexing, wich can and will lead to premature failure of your motherboard.

Otherwise I am not sure what you might be refering to when you say Orange Rubber thingies.

I'm of the opinion that those are used to provide some give for thermal cycling to relieve stresses in the mobo and to help prevent over-tightening. I use them if I have them. And they go onto the screws which are then screwed down into the standoffs - what did you think, that they're supposed to go underneath the mobo. Duuuuh...

They are not rubber - they are red fiber washers, and they are intended to go under the screw heads to prevent any possible shorting with an adjacent or close circuit line. They are now normally not necessary - but - like anything else, once in a while.

Back in the 386 days, most mobo mount points were held by plastic standoffs that were inherently flexible - very few cases had all hard mount points as most do today. I think they are more needed today than then - but that's just me...

Hi, Early mother boards, about 10 yrs ago, did not have enough clearance around the mounting holes so shorted against the posts and/or screws. MB designers are smarter now. The washer are no longer needed. Jim

If your case is the kind that does not have standoffs but those dimples that curve up to meet the motherboard you may want to use them. You might paste them on to keep them in place with a glue stick or something. It is just kind of a judgement call. Most motherboards dont come with washers anymore.

They do allow more room for error now.

Hi again, If you want to use the stupid things anyway, just glue them to the board a the mounting holes so they will stay put will you install the board. Jim

I never used them and it burned me installing my dual Xeon board. They are highly recommended if you have a PC-DL or NCT board.
