Do I need to use the ATX-12X power connector?

I'm finally getting around to building a system based on a mobo that has been laying around here for a long time: and IWILL DVD266-uRN. The board is a dual processor, Socket 370 mobo, and I'm populating it with a couple of 866 Mhz P3 FCPGA processors.

I've got it working with one processor, and will install the other tomorrow (needed a HSF for it, which I got tonight).

The case I'm using happens to have a 400W PS with the P4 type of 12X power connector. I didn't think I'd need it, but right in the middle of this mobo is a place to plug this in! What's it for, and do I need it?

I actually have the system working without it.

The manual that came with the mobo is absolutely worthless on this point.

TIA for any help.

It provides two extra +12V lines and two extra ground lines to help ease the load on the primary ATX cable. I'd definitely plug it in.
