what would be a solid upgrade for the least $

i already have a chick, i just didn't want to say anything, because i didn't want to have the follow the "pic" rule

CPU/MOBO need to be upgraded. the RAM is fine, as is the video card (assuming you have PC133 RAM).

However, if you dont, RAM is cheap anyway.

you may also want to consider a new hard drive if you dont already have an ATA100 / 7200RPM drive. the performance differences are huge. I went from a PII 300 / 64MB ram / 6GB 5400RPM ATA 33 drive to a PIII600 / 128 / 10GB ATA 66 7200 and the difference was huge...

now look at my current specs to see what i've got. lol.

You're not going to get away from the spiders. ;) Some areas can have more than a million spiders per acre. Just thought you'd like to know. ;)

No, you don't need to upgrade anymore than I do. :D

K6-3/400 @ 450
384mb ram
18gb WD Expert
45gb IBM 75GXP

If you have a good old BX-Mobo, which is FCPGA-compatible (Slotket or FCPGA-socket already). I'd grab some of the newer Celly2's, 800MHz+ and you have a nice system again...also I would buy a new 256MB stick to clean up the memory mess and ensure fast operation (YES, mem is dirt cheap... ;) ).

no one asked the question!

What do you do on your cpu? If you aren't playing the latest 3D games, then you really don't need to upgrade a whole lot......More HD space is always good, but 224mb ram is plenty...

i'd say buy a new p3 or something with 100 bus, but then i thought about it and that would cost more than getting a new kt133 board (like $50 now probably ) and a athlon 950 ($58 on pricewatch) or something

Lets see, I'd start by replacing the CPU with a 1.4GHz T-Bird, which would require you to replace the motherboard as well. Get a SiS Athlon DDR board, or an AMD760 based solution. Then 512MB PC2100 CL2.5, followed up with a Geforce3. If you don't have a Hercules Game Theater XP, get one, and some Boston Acoustics BA4800 to go with them. Toss in one or two 40GB 7200RPM drives for good measure, with a 16X DVD-ROM and 24X CD-RW to round things out. 19" Flat CRTs are a steal at sub-$300, and a NIC...you'll always need one of those.

The total should be around $1k. No biggie.

Let's see, no CPU cooler, same power supply as a celery. Sounds like a $1000 paperweight with a special "smoky" center.

Actually, it sounds like our pre-schooler stayed up a little past his bedtime.

But really folks, I have the same PSU in my 1.4GHz DDR system as I did when I had a Celeron 366 system; an Antec PP303X. Guess what; the old cooler on my Celeron 366 was also the cooler I used until very recently too. An Alpha PFH Socket-370 heatsink (think Alpha PAL6035, without the copper inset) worked quite well on my old T-Bird, just as it had on my Celeron.

No special smoky center.

I need to upgrade!!
System:
POS OEM mobo...
cel 500
256 sdram
12.7GB Quantum 4800rpm (ty HP...)
30GB 75GXP (i put in)
V3 2k
HP CD-RW 4x2x20 ......

I was thinking of getting a new system and using my existing 30GB HD. 1.4 tbird, ecs mobo, 256ddr sdram w/ a lite-on 16x burner, later on get a radeon 8500 when they're cheaper.... that might be an idea. :)

Do I need to upgrade?..........no.
Am I going to upgrage?...................yes.
Why?..................Because I can.

I feel like such a sheep. Only going 6 months since last upgrade to 1GHz, MSI Pro 2a, and 512mb PC133CAS2
But, I was never really satisfied, so now its 1.4GHz, ECS mobo, 512mb DDR...............we'll see.

Total cost about $130 after I sell old mobo and processor.
