I bought a 120gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Plus used from some guy on here a few months ago. He said it's been working fine for him, I got a good deal on it so I didn't look back. It was working perfectly fine for me for about a month before I started having problems.
Randomly it'll make loud noises that don't sound good at all and cause my computer to lock up. I run my PC with the side cover off, so I can hear exactly what's going on. It's definitely this harddrive and not my others. When I go to browse it through My Computer, navigating is very slow and it just doesn't want to work well.
I have two 80gb WD running as well, both of which are 3+ years old, I've had no problems with them. When I unplug the new Seagate, my computer runs great. No problems. I'm also powering everything with a super generic PSU, which I'm not sure has the juice to run all three of these harddrives. Could this be the problem?
I'm currently defragmenting the troublesome harddrive with Raxco PerfectDisk to see if that'll fix my problems. If it doesn't, are there any troubleshooting programs out there that can tell me what might be wrong with my harddrive? The seller told me the drive is under warranty until 2009, so if I have to, I wouldn't mind RMA'ing it for a new one.
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Abit NF7-S
2 x 512mb Crucial PC3200 DDR RAM
Sapphire Radeon 9600 non-pro
2 x 80gb Western Digital SE harddrives
1 x Seagate 120gb harddrive
Windows XP home
Please let me know if you need any clarification, I appreciate all help in advance.
