do i need to replace the thermal paste that come with my heatsink???

Does anybody know that if i have to take the thermal paste that come with the heatsink and replace it with other thermal paste or artic silver? is it difficult to do it?

do u have to, no.

is it hard, not really

just use a knife or something to scrape it off, trying not scratch it much.

artic silver will prob perform a little better then whats there now

oh yeah, since u said it was paste. Try some rubbing alcohol with a q-tip or cloth or something.

I find that Goo Gone works really well for thermal compound and Arctic Silver.
If you have a thermal pad to remove, then acetone is the best.

The following article from the Arctic Silver II website contains excellent information about cleaning your surfaces and applying your compound in general. It would be the same procedure for other compounds - not just ASII.

Thermal Compound Instructions

The main point to keep in mind when cleaning any existing past/pad from your HS is to make sure you use a cleaner that does not leave residue - which as the article describes is a very important fact to be aware of.
