Do I need to rename game exes with ATi cards for max performance?

I have observed that AOE3, maybe MW, Chronicles of Riddick ran slower on CAT 6.6 than on CAT 6.5. Practical gameplay experience.
Is this true?

Nah. More performance but I think there are problems when you do that. I think it was AFR-friendlyD3d.exe or some shiz like that!

OOO. I was right! It was AFR-FriendlyD3D.exe! Anyways, that was only used when you wanted to FORCE CrossFire on some games (Oblivion). With Catalyst 6.7, you don't have to do that anymore!

You used to have to do it for Direct3D titles that aren't supported by Crossfire but 6.7 changes that.

You still have to for non-Crossfire OpenGL games though.

Wasn't it for FEAR and all?

I tried 3d mark 06 again only default tests, score was even lower 4612, last time was 4627.

That's within the margin of error.

The only .exe's you might want to rename are things like Call Of Juarez to get it to run HDR+AA (rename it Oblivion.exe), unless you run Crossfire. As stated many times in this thread.

You?re sort of right:

http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32310

There seems to be some disagreement as to whether this degrades image quality, uses additional cpu cycles, and ATI themselves says it produces corruption in some games. (not to mention Skinner?s report that it makes Hitman Blood Money run slower)

Of course, you still have the clunky re-naming exe?s for OpenGL games as well.
Crossfire drivers just aren?t anywhere near SLi quality yet.

You aren't listening. You don't need to rename .exe's unless you have a crossfire setup or are using the chuck patch.

Maybe because your card is crap? ;)

Some games work better with certain drivers while others don't. Just because the driver is new doesn't mean that it handles ALL games as well as the older drivers. Sometimes certain drivers are more optimized for certain games rather than every game.

most wanted as far i have seen has been running crap on 3 cards, low end, mainstream and high end.
1900xtx with driver 6.5 and 6.6, why the stuttering?

Check your background processes, reformate your hard drive. Can't think of anything else if you've tried everything.

I know a few months ago with my X800XT I got a boost of about 10FPS avg in FEAR from renaming the .exe. I donno if that still happens or even if it helped the new cards IE X1800's and above. But it did make FEAR run better. Again this was months ago and with and older card.

akshayt why don't you rename the .exe of FEAR and run the benchmark and see if it goes up? I would say testing it your self will give you the best results....

If this is still the demo for Most Wanted that you keep posting about than give it up. Demos are not final release software and are not always as optimized as the finished product.

Crossfire drivers just aren?t anywhere near SLi quality yet.
Have you tried using nVidia's control panel to manage profiles? It's an abomination and the new control panel is even worse.

I use nHancer because nVidia's solution is unusable.

yup :) I use nHancer too when i use SLI

Also the ATI new update Cat 6.7 does alot of good changes for crossfire drivers.

Yes, he's used Nvidia's control panel.....and likes it.......even the new one. In fact, he likes the new one more......

Both solutions CF or SLI leave me with a desire to get a third party. Whether it be nHancer or Tray Tools. Needless to say, the drivers both deliver what they need to in games, hence why Crossfire and SLI compete well against eachother.

Ah yes, your problem appears to be that you don;t read the answers that people post to your questions.
