Do I need to remove the thermal paste when I change to a Scythe Mine?

I just removed the old AMD stock heatsink and there was some old grease left over. Do I need to remove this old stuff before I reapply some new thermal paste with the Scythe Mine. If I need to remove this stuff, how do I do it? Thanks.

I would recommend removing any extra any time you feel it necessary. Cleaning the extra off the core/housing ensure you don't over apply, and there's nothing wrong with a little freshly thermal paste! remember to turn off the computer after the first 24 hours of use to help the paste cure.

I use a high % isopropyl alcohol cleaner and q-tips or lint-free clothes.

So I can use it for a few hours now, then leave it off all day tomorow. Should I start overclocking after the paste cures?
edit: This cooler is amazing, but the silence doesn't sound right. Will I get used to it eventually?

start overclocking after you know the system is stable at stock. run memtest, prime95, stuff like that. yea, you'll get used to teh silence :) I use a zalman 7700-Cu...1700 RPMs never sounded so good.
