I'm kinda wondering if my Zalman 7000 CU is seated correctly, so I was wanting to take it off and then reseat it... Do I need to remove my motherboard from the case to do this? Space isn't really an issue, since it's a big 1080 case...

Well, if you can physically reach the clip holding the HS to the socket, then no, you don't NEED to remove it.

However, the added room to work, coupled with the knowledge that a screwdriver is much less likely to slip when you're comfortably holding it is worth the added 30 minutes of removing/reinstalling the board into the case.

I have an Antec 1040. Same case, basically. My Epox 8RDA+ mobo angles the HS/Clip in such a way that you pretty much HAVE TO remove the board from the case. A PITA, but worth it to me.

Does that HS bolt THRU the mobo? If so, you can't get it off w/o removing the mobo from the case! :Q

no it does not screw through. It uses the mounting clips and screws low into them.

Eveything MichaelD said in his first post is applicable to you. Just replace the word "clip" with the word "screws" and that's you.

If it was me, I'd yank the board so you can get a good look at what's going on when you tighten the screws. The metal mounting bracket needs to be screwed down completely tight against the aluminum bars. Just make sure you tighten each screw a little at a time. Alternate back and forth until they're both bottomed out.
