Do I need to remove my backplate before...

I recently bought a NZXT T40 cooler for my i7 870 and, after waiting all week to install it, I finally tore my computer out of its old case and put it in the new one. After getting it all settled in the case I go to install the T40's backplate, and there is already a backplate there. It is the stock dell i7 screw HSF backplate, but it is glued.
Should I install the t40 over it? Otherwise, how do I go about removing it?

I mean that my mobo already has a backplate.

I don't see a way to remove it, so I wondering if the t40 can mount on it.

I guess my only question would be why would you put an aftermarket cooler on a Dell motherboard? Since you can't overclock, and the stock Dell coolers are pretty darn quiet, seems unnecessary to me.

Had a look at the NZXT T40's mounting hardware and it'll be unlikely that you'll be able to reuse the old back plate. There are long screws that goes from the back plate to the top of the motherboard. There's a second set of screws with threads on both ends; that's for LGA2011. If you could thread that screw set through the old back plate or its size matches, there's a chance that its mountable without modification.

But the old back plate does not seem like its permanently secured with screws and more likely to be held down with double sided tape. You could try be more forceful in removing the back plate after unscrewing the four corner screws.

It runs the intel stock cooler, but it has a backplate. I don't know why. Actually, it isn't even the intel stock cooler, it has screws. I honestly have no idea what kind of cooler it is, but it has an intel sticker. The 870 will hit 99c and throttle during some compute loads unless I turn the 80mm fan to 4500rpm. Not quiet.

I will try it, but the screws do not come out. It is almost like they are threaded through both sides. I've never seen it before.
Edit: I got the screws loose, but now those parts extending to the silver part are stuck really bad. I've heard that hair dryers will soften the glue/tape. Should I try that?
Also post 666.

Just pry it off slowly. Hair dryer will help soften but I'm more concerned that the heat will do more harm than good. The solder wouldn't melt from a hair dryer but the motherboard components might be slightly affected. Use a prying tool like a spudger on the parts that is adhered with tape.

OK! I got it all together, not my only question is temps. ~68c stabilized P95 temps at 100% fan speed. It's fairly quiet, and 20c lower than my stock cooler, but just want to double check.
EDIT: Creeping towards 72c. I was planning on buying some awesome fans, but this seems fine.
