I'm thinking about setting up internet access sharing with 2 Home PNA cards/USB devices. Would I need to purchase a second IP address? Is there any way I can avoid doing so?

I read your other thread.

A solution to Not having place for NIC, is the following:

You buy USB to Ethernet Module. ($37) for your father computer.

http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10241662&loc=101

You put an NIC in your computer ($10).

You buy a SMC Barricade (this week $50).

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005IBYY/techbargainscom/102-2760831-1332947

You have to run a CAT5 cable to your Father computer.

However, for less then $100 you have state of the art Sharing, one IP, two independent computers. (and two additional free ports for two more computers).

You can get that USB-Ethernet adapter for under $20 right now at compgeeks.com

JackMDS is giving you the easy way if you want to run the cable. If you (or your wife in my case :D) is insistent that you don't run cable and you want to run the phoneline thing you can use just one ip address. Get proxy from www.analogx.com and use it. Very easy to set up. There are some limitations so download it first. Don't know exactly what kind of speeds you're looking for but you can get the old 1Mbps cards for ~$3 from compgeeks and they include ethernet connection if you want to upgrade in future. Either way download proxy now and read the readme file so you'll know the compromises you'll be making. (I'm waiting for wireless to get cheap, so I did the phoneline thing in the meantime)

After reading up some more on this issue, it seems like the Phoneline USB network is more trouble than its worth (even if it is only $60 for a complete setup). I think I'm gonna haul my PC over to the office room, and get that router contraption JackMDS posted a link to. I trust this SMC Barricade is a decent reliable product?
