Do I need to port forward between wireless bridged routers?

I have two Asus Routers.

The main router is an Asus RT-N56U. This router is connected to my cable modem. I have my PC in my office and it connects to this router via Ethernet cable.

I have a second Asus RT-N12 that is connected to the main router via Repeater Mode. Basically a wireless bridge. This is the router my Xbox One connects to.

I am trying to use the Xbox App on Windows 10 PC to connect to my Xbox One.

The Xbox App can see the Xbox One as it comes up on the list of devices, however it is unable to connect. I can ping the IP address of the Xbox One. The error I get is that Xbox One needs to be on the same network.

Do I have to setup a route to/from the main router to the repeater router? Do I have to port forward from the main router to the repeater?

I am not a network guy, but I thought that routers being bridged effectively means they are on the same network and computers that connect on one router can communicate with computers on.

Looks like my assumption is wrong but I am hoping that there is a way to communicate between bidirectional between the two routers.

Bridges and Repeaters are not the same thing:

First you need to sort out if "Repeater Mode" is actually acting like a repeater, or if it's a bridge, or if it's an entirely different network issue due to something being misconfigured. If you connect any other wireless devices to the repeater, do they function properly?

Thank for the link and the reply.

If I turn off wireless on my laptop and connect it to the RT-N12 it works fine in that I can get to the internet. I did not have time this morning to see what would happen if I tried something like a home group between the laptop and my main PC via the repeater.

The Asus Console for the RT-N12 specifically calls out the mode as "repeater" mode.

Now that I read the link and then opened up the router console, I see my issue. I am in fact in Repeater mode and the version of the RT-N12 I have does not have a WDS (Wireless Distribution System) function which would allow me to connect to an access point wirelessly and form a single network.

Lesson learned. I will have to purchase something to replace the RT-N12
