If I am just pulling a burger from the freezer, do I need to let it thaw before I smack it on the grill?

No you don't unless you want it well done.

If you cook it frozen, you can get it to be medium rare.

Yuck. Who would want to take the chance these days?

Yeah, you should probably thaw it out. If you don't, the outside will be crispy by the time the inside is done.

Course, I like my burgers well done, so..

Just make sure it's heated right through, as if you don't get the insides to at least 60c, bugs live on, like E. coli. Want to know how that gets in there? Just ask...

Alrighty I will... hit me with it in about 5 more minutes when i'm eating my sorta-cooked burger. You know... for the effect.

I've found that those crappy frozen ones that come in a box are thin enough and waffled so that they cook fine straight out of the freezer.
But those things are so nasty and who knows what kind of quality meat. I've taken to getting the highest-quality low-fat ground beef I can find and making my own burgers, wrap them in foil and freeze them individually.

Those are too thick and not waffled...the first time I cooked one, I threw it right on the grill and it was like leather on the outside and STILL rare in the middle.

So now I thaw them first.
