Hi - I have a new Opty 165 and A8N-sli Premium m/b. Installed XP w/ Sp2 and it looks like it detects two CPU's correctly (shows both cores in device mgr, and both cores in task mgr) - do I still need to install the AMD dual core patch? And the MS hotfix? everything seems to be running just fine without them - just wondering if I have SP2 if I still need to install them.

I have C'n'Q disabled - so don't use power mgt features....

Not to thread highjack but where do you enable/disable cool and quiet? I downloaded and installed the amd athlon x2 driver but haven't found anywhere to configure anything.

actually if ur cpu wasnt recognized it would be because of bios.....
people only install teh drivers because of slow downs and speed ups in games and flaws like that so its ur call...
i installed them on my pc and it fixed some game problems..liek SAN ANDREAS would be super fast mode unless i seleted it to run on a single core..but now it is fine with the cores distributing load...
i would just install them . why not>

Amd dual core drivers are required, i had a few slow downs in games when i did not have them instaqled now i dont have a problem, well a few things need to be set in affinity but meh.

I thought the ms hotfix is only required if u plan on using cool and quite as windows did not detect the usage of both cpu's properly and as such they were not throtled and speed up properly, i dont know if thats correct though.

I would just install the AMD X2 driver, thats how I have mine. I did need the microsoft hotfix for the Pentium-D 830 I had, but never had any problems with my X2 without it.
