sucks that I even have to worry about it on my 3-month old car, but I walked out of work last week to discover a pretty ugly stain on the hood:

(sorry for the image quality, was taken in an underground garage)

almost looks like someone spilled coffee on my car and left it there to dry in the sun all day.... I tried scrubbing it off myself with some glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth, but while it was able to get rid of some of it, the majority of the stain remained. also took my car to a car wash, but that wasn't any help.

any recourse left before I call a car detailing shop and hope they can help me?

 Or get one of their paint cleaners (most of them are clear coat safe these days and will say that on the bottle).

Make sure you wash and dry the paint before using and that you wax the area after because this stuff will strip any protective wax off your paint.

Don't use the cleaner/wax compounds, they aren't really good at either one. Stick to the products that do one thing only.

Maybe some white vinegar diluted in water? Isopropyl Alcohol? I would certainly try clay or compound (as a last resort like FeuerFrei said) if those and any additional "remover" products you have don't work. I highly doubt a singly day was enough time for coffee to completely etch into your paint (maybe into the clear coat a bit - hence the compound).

Interesting read:

Yes, you do. Properly protected paint will resist scratches and other contaminants. I'm getting ready to have both cars detailed and finished with Opticoat.

Wash with dawn then claybar. I don't think coffee will be difficult at all.
