Do I need to format this drive?

I have a wired problem with one of my hard disk. I had 1.5 GB free on this disk. So I decided to make some space by deleting things. So far so good I look around for big files and what not, all told I deleted 11 GB of stuff. When checked the free space left on the drive it was still 1.5 GB free. I have run check disk, that did not seem to fix it. Any ideas anyone. BTW this is a 200GB WD special edition.

Ok I just looked in disk management and it says I have 13.8 GB free... but it is not showing up in properties on the drive... I have diskeeper installed and defragmenting with that does not help. Also I have purged the trash...

Edit: I take it back disk management says 1.5 GB free...

hmmm, have you tried wiping out your temp directory? Do you have a program on there to save deleted files incase you want them back or deleted accidentally? I know Norrton Systemworks does this. You may also want to boot from a Windows Boot Disk and run the fdisk /mbr command, it might fix your problem.

Baring any last minute advice I am gonna format this drive tonight... I just deleted some more stuff and free space didn't change....

If you have Norton System Works with a Norton Protected Recycle Bin, you will need to right click and "Empty Norton Protected Files". I had the same issue and it was Norton saving everything I deleted in addition to any files the system deleted due to removing programs etc...

I'll say this one last time before I give up. I've seen this problem first-hand before, have you run chkdsk or scandisk on the drive as the volume bitmap may not be accurate?.
