Windvd only allows me to pick 2 channel sound, and doom3 will not let me choose surround sound. I went to creative's speaker setting, and it is set to 5.1. I tested the channels and each speaker was working as they should. what else do i need to do to get 5.1 sound? thanks

this is with using win2000 by the way

IDK if win 2000 is the same as power DVD5 but you need the uber delux version of power DVD 5 to get anything other then 2.1, the one bundled with drives will not do anything but 2.1

I know the version of windvd i used has 5.1. I was able to use 5.1 the night before. but i tried doom3 for the first time last night. tried to enable surround but it tells me it can't detect any surround sound. I was confused so i went to check windvd, thats when windvd also shows only 2 channel, the other multi-channel options are all grayed out. i can't remember if i changed any setting so thats why i'm wondering if there anything i can do to re-enable 5.1 sound

Check your speaker settings in control panel. Make sure it's set to 5.1. I had a problem with doom 3 when I had it set to 7.1, and had to set it down to 5.1 to make it work. Don't know if that is applicable or not.

Go into the Speaker Settings panel and make sure the Synchronize with Control Panel option is enabled. A temporary fix for WinDVD is to go into the sound options area and tell it to use S/PDIF Output. Go into the Creative AudioHQ and make sure that Dolby Digital EX and DTS decoders are enabled. The sound card will take the digital track that WinDVD plays and decode it to an analog signal, giving you 5.1 sound. This also works for players that will not let you use 5.1 sound, such as OEM and trial versions of the software.

I just tried the suggestions. Usuing S/PDIF, I was able to get WinDVD to play in 5.1 sound. But I still can not get Doom3 to detect surround speakers. I have the 'synchronize with control panel' option enabled. If i go to win2k control panel, I don't see any speaker settings. The only one i can find if the one from creative which is already set to 5.1. Please, any more ideas?

XP it was in: control panel (Classic View) ...Sounds and Audio Devices...Audio Tab....Advanced...hehe I had mine set to desktop.

I downloaded frycry demo last night and it was able to play 5.1 sound, doom still cannot. I spend all this money on the new rig i want the sound to be what i paid for. Please help. thanks
