do I need to clip my cats claws?

it's been at least 15 yrs since I had a cat and I don't remember ever clipping their nails. but our new kitty (named Annabel )
is front de-clawed but her back ones seem to be getting long.

I use people clippers (fingernail) with my cats, better than those you get from the pet store. Just don't clip them too much or they can bleed, never happended but I know about it. I just trim off the very tips of them, and do it when they are about to fall asleep and they wont fight you.

catch them when they look tired like this...

You don't have to for health reasons or anything like that, but it'll help your furniture survive a bit longer.

You might run into some issues with her being declawed. Some declawed cats have medical complicatiosn from the procedure (imagine cutting off your fingers at the first joint). It's a procedure considered so cruel, it's outlawed in some areas.

Some declawed cats have litterbox issues and biting problems.

I digress.

The back claws should be ok. Get her a scratching post that she can cling to and kick.

I've heard the scratching post thing before but it seems weird.
no issues with the declawing, she was declawed when we got her, I wouldn't want to do that to her. but shes a very nice cat ...except when she trys to lay on the keyboard as I type!!

Cats have the right to bear arms -- they need their claws in case an unfriendly cat ever meets up with them. Give your cat a a decent stratching post, once they use it the claws shed itself naturally and you wont ever have ruined furniture.
