Do I need to buy 2 Starcrafts if I want to plan multiplayer on my home network?

Is this troll bait?

No - I really do not know. I remember with the 1st version you could install a "client only" version on the 2nd computer and play with only 1 cd. Wondering if you could still do that.

You can't play LAN either. There was a big stink about it, that's why it might be assumed to be a troll.

If you wanna play Starcraft 2 on two computers, you will need to buy two copies. And you cant LAN anyway. You are REQUIRED to sign up for a battle.net account for each copy of the game installed. And every time you play, you have to log in to battle.net.
And when you play with a friend, it will always be online, over your ISP. Never any other way. Doesnt matter if you two are networked or not.

i thought matchmaking has to go through battle.net, but it switches over to lan if possible once the game starts?

Nah, I am just kidding. I stopped caring a long time ago. Good thing there is Dawn of War, C&C3 and CoH. ; ) Plus, Shogun 2 is in the works! Yay!

I was at Fragapalooza last this past wknd, & trust me, the lack of LAN play did not make people happy.

My friends were loving getting disconnected randomly when internet went down as there were some consistency issues initially.

One thing to keep in mind is you may have issues connecting to Bnet with 2 computers running on the same network. I haven't tried it personally, but I know some games/services have issues with that sort of thing.

If the game is designed well enough (and there really is no excuse for them to not be these days) at most you should have to change the port for one of the copies.

That said, I'm sure this works about as well as LAN play works with L4D over my dial up connection. That is, it works like total shit.
