Do i need thermal paste?

I just got my e6850 and I was looking at the fan and on the bottom i see three gray stripes. I'm guessing this is some kind of thermal sticker. Do I still need to go out and buy proper thermal paste? I don't plan on doing any overclocking.
 
No, just use the thermal pad supplied; you CPU will be plenty cool if don't plan to overclock.
 
The stripes you're looking at are the thermal pads supplied with Intel stock coolers. If you don't plan on getting an aftermarket heatsink, then you don't need to do anything to it.

No, the thermal stuff is already on the stock HSF, ready to be used.

But I would recommend the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro if your friend plans on doing any overclocking or just wants a more efficient cooler. Like the stock HSF, it comes with thermal compound pre-applied, and the cooler itself can be installed and removed without removing the system board from the case.

OK, thanks for the reply. I'm helping him make a $1000 build, so no serious OC or anything. I'm thinking maybe to like 3-3.2 GHz.
