I recently got Samsung Captivate. Now, the phone is supposed to have 16GB of internal storage. So I figured, I would not need an SD card and just put whatever music, moves, files I wanted onto that storage. It's supposed to be super easy--just connect phone to PC via the USB cable and you can see it as a removable drive.

However, when I do that, phone bleeps, says it's connected to the computer. The computer says it's installing drivers for the device. But the phone never shows up in on the list of connected devices, and I thus I cannot add any sort of files to it. What's up with that? Do I really need an SD card to be able to add anything to the phone? What am I missing?

When I plug my Incredible into USB, the phone displays a popup which allows me to choose whether I want to just charge the phone or mount the device as a USB drive. If I mount the phone as a drive, both the internal storage and any SD card I have inserted appear as separate flash drives...

Are you making sure that you're actually mounting your phone? When you plug it into a computer check your phone and you should get a notification that gives you a few options, you need to pick the mount option.
