Yes - or you can install it to a pata drive, load the sata drivers, then use ghost to put it on the sata drive.

SATA drivers are part of RAID controllers - they are hardware specific in most cases. If your mobo has a RAID controller, it has the SATA drivers on your mobo's utility disk. It really is not M$'s problem until there is a single standard.

You may need to use a driver diskette, you may not. If you're asking the question, you might find some useful working knowledge on this page. If you want to mention what motherboard you're using, that would help here.

I think you hit F6 in the very beginning of the install and it allows you to select the driver. In many cases, the drive won't be recognized without the driver.

ROFL!!! Damn you MS!!!!

Why don't they offer a fix for their OS that was written before the technology came about when they don't even write drivers to begin with nor have access to the hardware design details!!! The Jerks!!!!

FYI, They do offer two "fixes":

One is to use the !@!#! mass storage driver when you install...they even put in a prompt: Hit F6 to provide additional mass storage controller drivers.

The other is to insert the mass storage driver into your installation media. Both are well documented.

Depends on which mobo you're using.

With NF4 based mobo, for example, you don't need to install any driver at the beginning of the installation, unless you're using RAID

Just make sure that you setup the boot order to boot from the SATA drive first (if you have regular IDE drive as well in your machine) after the OS install.

You DON'T need any drivers if your motherboard has NATIVE SATA. If it does, Serial ATA ports are simply identified as IDE3 and IDE4 (on a Asus P4P800-E, for instance). Windows wont notice if it is SATA or PATA.
