Do I need nvidia MB drivers??

I just installed a fresh copy of Vista Ultimate,

I'm a little confused about the need of Nvidia motherboard drivers.

I see listed on nvidia' website:

* Ethernet Driver (v65.55) WHQL
* SMBus Driver (v4.60) WHQL
* Installer (v5.40)
* IDE SataRAID Driver (v9.31) WHQL
* IDE SataIDE Driver (v9.31) WHQL
* RAIDTOOL Application (v9.31)
* SMU (v1.23) WHQL

Which one of these drivers do I need?? Could someone help me out..

I can rule out the raid drivers because I don't plan on setting up a raid, bu may someone be kind enough to explain to me what the others are, and what is needed? Thanks so very much!!😛

firebyyrd,
each one of those drivers are important chip parts on your motherboard that need drivers to run the chip correctly. ethernet is your internet connection, smbus is your "system management bus " and is important for how your sytem components interact with each other, installer is the system apps installer service, ide sata raid is for sata harddrives being setup in a raid configuration, idesata ide is for just setting up a sata harddrive on your computer, raidtool is the app that set up your raid, smu is the is the "system management utility" which is really the same as the SMB driver in short. yes, unless you are using raid HDD setups you dont need the raid driver ,but you do need the ide sata ide driver if you have a sata drive. the rest of the files you need to run your system so your going to have to download and install them to get your system up and running correctly. just dont install the nvidia network manager and the firewall cause they will knock you off the internet and drive you crazy!!! :0 hope this helps, and let us know what happens!!! --------------------------------------- ACID ----------------------------

just a little update.

I proceeded to installing the drivers, and the only options it gave me .. was ethernet driver, mediashield, and SMbus.

I installed ethernet and SMbus..

good, that media shield contains the "nvidia headache" !! 🙂 good job , enjoy!!!!!

With Vista, the only thing you need to install drivers for (as far as NV drivers are concerned) is video cards, and possibly RAID drivers if you're doing RAID. Why update drivers for something that works just fine, and is natively supported by the OS?

I installed the Nvidia Ethernet Driver and afterwards I could not draw my Network Map in the Network and Sharing Center.

I just rolled back the Nvidia Driver to the one Vista installed during setup and all is fine.

As best I can tell the new Ethernet Driver (v65.55) WHQL must be breaking the LLTD (Link Layer Topology Discovery Protocol) which I understand is what Vista uses to discover your network topology and to draw a network map.

windows update had an nvidia IDE driver available, so i figured "why not?"

drive to drive transfer, 2.88 GB
vista driver - 5ish minutes, starting at 6.5 MB/s, steadily climbing to 15+ at the end
nv driver - i forgot how long, 6 - 6.5 MB/s for the entire transfer

😛
