I am building a new computer with DVD pioneer 16x
I have Voodoo5 for graphic card... can i expect good quality of DVD without DVD card?

I am assuming you will have access to some software DVD decoder if you decide not to go with the DVD card. As long as you have at least a 400 mhz cpu, there shouldn't be too many problems running DVDs using software decoding. However, don't expect to run too much else in the background while the DVD is playing.

DVD cards aren't so great because they use video overlay and that decreases image quality. If you're building a modern rig, you'll have more than enough power. Get PowerDVD or WinDVD as a software player.

Only thing they would be better for is if you wanted svideo out to a TV then you would want one but if you are just watching on yout monitor I have a 16x Pioneer Slot load and its perfect 🙂 If I had a bigger TV I would use the dvd card or a video card with out

I have the creative PCDVD encore with DXR3 decoder and i have noticed much better quality with the decoder mainly cause the DXR3 is a really good card.
